Vex 3: Game Overview

Vex 3 is the beloved third entry in the Vex series — a precision platformer that has earned its reputation as one of the most challenging stickman games ever made. You control a nimble stick figure through a gauntlet of Acts, each filled with spinning sawblades, collapsing platforms, spike walls, and jump sequences that demand pixel-perfect execution. The game doesn't just test your reflexes — it tests your patience, your pattern memorization, and your willingness to die 50 times on a single jump until muscle memory carries you through.

What sets Vex 3 apart from its predecessors is the scale of its level design. Acts are sprawling multi-section challenges that can take 2-5 minutes to complete at full speed. Hidden bonus stages, secret star collectibles, and the infamous 'Vexation' bonus levels — which unlock only after collecting all stars in an Act — extend the content well beyond the main campaign. The Vex series has always been about earning your victories, and Vex 3 doubles down on that philosophy with some of the most demanding platforming in browser gaming history. Did You Know?

The Vex series began as a single Flash game in 2010 by developer Amazing Adam. Vex 3 was the first entry to introduce swimming mechanics and boss fights, and it remains the most popular entry with over 100 million plays across all platforms. The 'Vexation' bonus levels were added after players complained that the main Acts were too easy — a complaint the developer took personally.

Key Features

Sprawling Multi-Section Acts: Each level is a 2-5 minute gauntlet of interconnected platforming challenges
Checkpoint System: Glowing flags throughout Acts provide mid-level respawn points — essential for learning brutal sections
Secret Star Collectibles: Hidden throughout every Act, collecting all stars in an Act unlocks the ultra-hard Vexation bonus level
New Swimming Mechanics: Underwater sections add vertical mobility and open up hidden routes
Boss Encounters: Each world culminates in a boss fight that tests both platforming precision and timing
Vexation Bonus Levels: Punishingly difficult bonus stages unlocked by 100% star collection — the true endgame challenge

Why You'll Love It

If you're a fan of elegant puzzle games, a good brain workout, and the sheer satisfaction of solving a tricky problem, Vex 3 is tailor-made for you. It's perfect for those moments when you want to unwind with a mentally stimulating activity, offering a refreshing blend of challenge and accessibility. The gradual difficulty curve ensures that you're always learning and growing, making every solved puzzle feel like a true victory.

How to Play Vex 3

Use arrow keys or WASD to move your stickman — Left/Right to run, Up to jump, Down to slide under low obstacles. The controls are responsive and precise: your stickman jumps exactly when you press, lands exactly where you aim. Every death is your fault, which makes every success feel earned. Wall-jumping (jump toward a wall and press jump again on contact) is essential for vertical sections and opens up alternate routes. Each Act is divided into sections with checkpoints (marked by glowing flags). Reach a checkpoint and you'll respawn there on death rather than restarting the entire Act. Secret stars are hidden throughout each level — collect all stars in an Act to unlock the Vexation bonus stage. Swimming sections (introduced in Vex 3) use the same controls but add vertical mobility, opening up underwater routes. The final Act of each world includes a boss encounter that combines platforming with timing-based combat.

Tips & Tricks

1.

Use wall jumps to skip entire hazard sections. Many spike corridors have parallel walls — bouncing between them keeps you above the spikes and clears sections in half the time.

2.

Don't be afraid to die exploring for stars. Checkpoints are generous, and the Vexation levels are the best content in the game. A few exploratory deaths are worth unlocking bonus stages.

3.

On swimming sections, tap jump rapidly instead of holding it. Tapping gives you finer altitude control — holding sends you to the surface too fast and into ceiling hazards.

4.

The slide (Down arrow) has invincibility frames during the first half of the animation. Use it to slide through spike clusters that look impassable — the timing is tight but learnable.

Why Play Here?

Platforming Royalty

Vex 3 is widely considered one of the best stickman platformers ever made. The level design is brutal but meticulously fair.

Content Worth Earning

The Vexation bonus levels locked behind star collection are genuinely some of the most rewarding platforming challenges in browser gaming.

Death Is Learning

Every death teaches you the exact obstacle timing. Watching your death count drop from 50 to 0 on a hard section is deeply satisfying.

I've been playing the Vex series since the Flash days and Vex 3 is the peak. 142 deaths on Act 7 and I loved every single one. The Vexation levels are absolutely brutal in the best way.

The star hunting adds so much replayability. Spent 2 hours finding all 3 stars in Act 5 and the Vexation version was worth every minute. Wish there were more than 9 Acts though.

Finally beat all 9 Acts with all stars collected. The World 3 boss was my nemesis for 3 days. This game taught me patience like nothing else. Vex 4 when?
